Race report by Soeren Boy Holst
The first round of the Danish Championships was recently held in Broendby, just outside Copenhagen in Denmark. This was also the first round of the open regional championships, PilegaardsCup. Not enough drivers attended in the 27t stock class, so the race was held with 19turn SuperStock and Touring Car Modified classes only.

In the modified class my car was really good. At Saturdays practice I broke the track record several times, but unfortunately the track was slower for all drivers on the race day. My 008 was still good though, so I made a 26 lapper in the first round of qualifying. I was then disqualified after technical inspection, since my rear spoiler had been bended and therefore being 1mm above the roof.

After the first round I planned to test different sway bars for the second round, but after the problems with technical inspection, I didn’t want to take any risks. I won the 2nd round of qualifying, making exactly the same 26 lapper as in first round. My apprentice Danni Eyde took 2nd spot and Michael Priest on 3rd. This time no problems with the technical inspection :0) Third round of qualifying didn’t give any changes in top 3. My car was still awesome and I took the TQ spot with more than 5 seconds. Danni on 2nd spot and Michael on 3rd.

Top 6 after qualifying:

1 Soeren Boy Holst XRAY T2’008
2 Danni Eyde-Nielsen XRAY T2’008
3 Michael Praest
4 Christian Lehm
5 Jan Larsen
6 Mike Gosvig XRAY T2’008

I made an excellent start of the first finale and made a gap instantly. Danni had problems with some interference, so I could see that he had a really hard time trying to keep Michael behind him, but he couldn’t. I had an easy win, even though the car was a little bit loose, Michael took the 2nd place and Danni third.

Before the 2nd final I changed the way I put additive on the tyres, to make the car more stable and easy to drive again. It worked, and Danni got a good start as well. Michael was fighting a lot with Christian, so even though Danni still had some interference, he could take 2nd place with Michael on third this time, and I got the overall win with two first places.

For third final Danni changed transmitter module and receiver and got rid of the interference. Actually he made his best time of the day, and was pretty close to me. I had a problem with a backmarker who didn’t let me pass, so I ended on the curb. This gave Danni the opportunity to take the lead. I had the push really hard to fight my way back in the lead, but I made it. Danni and I had a really good battle and he ended on a deserved 2nd place ahead of Michael. Unfortunately there was some problems with Danni’s transponder, and it was not possible to get the result he deserved, therefore he lost the final and the overall 2nd place. Really bad luck as this could have been Danni’s best result in modified this far.
